STANFORD TREE MASCOT
Following the abolishment of the Stanford Indian mascot in the early 1970's, the Stanford Band's "Tree" won out as the official mascot over the "Stanford Steaming Manhole Covers" and "Stanford French Fries". Each year, after a grueling audition process, a new person is crowned Tree for the coming year and oversees the creation of a unique new costume. It must command attention on the field while still being light enough and maneuverable enough to allow the inhabitant to dance (and occasionally fight) madly for an entire day of football and associated festivities while also being able to fit through doorways and pack down for air travel. 2010 and 2011 Trees designed and built by Neal Ormond.
